This years Northern Ireland Band Association Championships were held on Sat. 20th Oct. in the Market Place Arts Centre in Armagh. We competed in the advanced section playing two pieces of own choice, ‘Journey and Celebration’ and ‘Concert Prelude’. The adjudicator on the day Hughine Naylor, commented on how well the band performed and said that she had a difficult decision in deciding which band should take the top honours. Despite her encouraging words, 1st place went to our old friends, Dublin Concert Band with 92 points and the Ardee Concert Band taking a close 2nd spot with 90 points. After an enjoyable day out, the band members returned to Indigo where all the members enjoyed an evening meal.
Annual Variety Concert
This years Annual Variety Concert will take place in the Bohemian Centre on Thursday 6th December at 8pm sharp. As well as featuring the Recorder Group, Junior and Senior Bands, this year we are delighted to have the Castletown Accordion Orchestra performing at our concert, which should make for a great nights entertainment. Tickets are available from any committee or band member.
New Learners
Over the last few weeks we have started all the successful members from the 06/07 recorder class on to instruments. We are delighted to have 2x clarinet, 4x flute, 2x trumpet, 1x euphonium and 1x percussion players to add to our ranks. We wish all our new students the best of luck on their new instruments and thank their tutors for the endless efforts and time that they give in making these students some of the best in the land.
Junior Band.
Our Junior Band has recently reformed after the summer recess under to capable hands of John Gaynor and is already hard at work preparing for their slot at this years Annual Variety Concert. Following their success at this year’s National Band Championships we are all eagerly awaiting heir next performance.
Bingo
Bingo sessions continue every Sunday night in the Bohemian Centre at 8pm sharp. We have recently introduced a new Jackpot flyer in addition to our usual prize fund. This new Jackpot will have a top prize of 800euro and would be welcome in any household coming up to Christmas. So why not join us and hope its you!
