Ardee Concert Band are delighted to announce the establishment of the Ardee Concert Band School of Music.
Since the band was formed 140 years ago, the method of teaching has always been that new members were taught
the rudiments of music and how to play an instrument by more senior members of the band. This insured the survival
of the band. Under the new School of Music, this system will continue as before.
The main purpose of the School of Music is to formalise all educational aspects of the band under one umbrella and this should give a greater focus to the overall development of music education within the band. The main aspects involved in music education in the band are the intake of new members, the recorder group(s), individual or group tuition, ensembles/junior band and the grade examinations of the Royal Irish Academy of Music. The School of Music will not be a separate entity from the band and all young people learning music in the School of Music will be full members of the band and will be expected to progress though the School into the senior band. If anyone is interested in joining the band or finding out more information, they can contact band secretary, Niall Doherty (087.2251879), or assistant secretaries, Tim O'Callaghan (041.6853433) or Kevin Reilly (041.6853991).
